2017 Volkswagen Golf Overview

The 2017 Volkswagen Golf in Orlando continues to be a top-notch option for modern car buyers. It's one of the most sought-after hatchbacks on the market due to its performance, styling and collection of premium features that give it a hint of luxury. Coming into the 2017 model year, the Golf undergoes a few changes that primarily affect its trim line. Select models have been discontinued and a new trim has been added to the roster that better accommodates the needs of today's drivers.

For additional details about the Golf and the Golf GTI, please take a look at our 2017 Volkswagen Golf review below.

Golf Features & Trim Levels

For the new model year, the two-door Golf and Golf GTI have both been discontinued. The four-door hatchback model is now the only body style available for those interested in the 2017 Volkswagen Golf in Orlando. Aside from this change, the standard Golf drops the SE and SEL trims and instead offers just two trims: S and the brand-new Wolfsburg Edition. The GTI version sticks to four trims: S, Sport, SE and Autobahn.

Fresh on the scene this year, the Wolfsburg Edition model comes with automatic headlights and wipers, heated front seats, keyless entry and sunroof. 16-inch alloy wheels, vinyl upholstery and automatic emergency braking are also featured on the models.

The Golf GTI's Sport trim is also all-new for 2017. Complete with a Performance package, adaptive xenon headlights, keyless entry/ignition, and large front and rear brakes, the Sport model is a standout choice for Golf buyers.

Golf Powertrains

A turbocharged 1.8L four-cylinder, generating 170 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, is outfitted on the standard 2017 Golf. It comes standard with a five-speed manual; however, a six-speed automatic transmission is available. With the latter option, torque is boosted to 199 lb.-ft. and an EPA-estimated 29 mpg combined, 25 city and 35 highway is achieved.

The Golf GTI model gets a turbo 2.0L four-cylinder, producing 210 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. All Sport, SE and Autobahn models are able to achieve 220 horsepower due to the standard Performance package. The engine comes paired with a six-speed manual transmission, but a six-speed dual-clutch automatic is optional.

Out of the two transmissions, the manual is most fuel-efficient, offering an EPA-estimated 28 mpg combined, 24 city and 34 highway.

Golf Safety Features

Antilock brakes, stability and traction control, hill hold assist, a rearview camera and airbags are standard on the Golf and Golf GTI. Additional features including forward collision warning, automatic braking, blind-spot monitoring and lane departure warning, which have been praised in many 2017 Volkswagen Golf reviews, are available.
